Throughout the scriptures, we read much about the 2nd coming of Christ, especially in the Book of Revelation. He tells that he is coming and that he is coming quickly. We must ask ourselves the question, are we ready if he were to come tonight? Though we don’t know the time, we can look at the signs around us. I think looking at Israel and the events occurring over there lets us know just how tender the fig leaves are getting of his return. Jesus warned us of the birth pains leading up to the main event known as THE GREAT TRIBULATION.
However, the scriptures also tell us of a catching up of believers sometime before or during this horrific time. There are many different views as to when this catching up or rapture will occur but most Christians pray that we can be accounted worthy to escape those terrible times when God will judge the world for not receiving Jesus. One thing we do know, is that we should live each day as if it is the day of his return and not be caught short without the oil in our lamps.
I Thessalonians 4:16 says the following: “FOR THE LORD HIMSELF WILL COME DOWN FROM HEAVEN, WITH A LOUD COMMAND, WITH THE VOICE OF THE ARCHANGEL AND WITH THE TRUMPET CALL OF GOD, AND THE DEAD IN CHRIST WILL RISE FIRST. AFTER THAT, WE WHO ARE STILL ALIVE AND ARE LEFT WILL BE CAUGHT UP TOGETHER WITH THEM IN THE CLOUDS TO MEET THE LORD IN THE AIR. AND SO WE WILL BE WITH THE LORD FOREVER. THEREFORE ENCOURAGE EACH OTHER WITH THESE WORDS.” Also in I Thessalonians:5, in the first chapter we read: “NOW BROTHERS, ABOUT TIMES AND DATES, WE DO NOT NEED TO WRITE TO YOU, FOR YOU KNOW VERY WELL THAT THE DAY OF THE LORD WILL COME LIKE A THIEF IN THE NIGHT….” In 1 Corinthians it also says: “LISTEN, I TELL YOU A MYSTERY. WE WILL NOT ALL SLEEP, BUT WE WILL ALL BE CHANGED—-IN A FLASH, IN THE TWINKLING OF AN EYE, AT THE LAST TRUMPET…..”
Then in the Book of Revelation, Chapters 19-21 we learn about the wedding feast and the Lord’s bride clothed in white. This is his church and the New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven. This is described as a most spectacular and wondrous event. This event will be beyond what we can possibly imagine!! The goal is for us to be there!! Now is the time to get the oil in our lamps and receive our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ!! Let us live our lives as if this event will occur at any moment. Let us be ready to meet our Lord and love his appearing!! Pondering on our future and these events to come at any time, I wrote the following song.
